Increases the incidence in Portugal with infections in maximum of two months
The 14-day incidence of coronavirus rose in Portugal to 125.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, in a day with 1,654 new infections, the highest figure in the last two months, and in which five deaths were reported. According to daily data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS), there were not so many infections in a day since September 8, when there were 1,778 infections.
In hospitals, there was a new rise in the number of patients admitted with the virus, which rises to 380, 19 more than the previous day, of which 62 are in intensive care. The Rt transmission index, which measures the number of people infected by an infected person, increased from 1.08 to 1.12. Since the pandemic broke out, Portugal, with just over ten million inhabitants, has added 1,100,961 confirmed cases and 18,222 deaths. Portugal has vaccinated 8.9 million people with the full schedule, 86% of its total population. He is currently vaccinating the population over 65 with a third dose, simultaneously with the flu vaccine.
Epidemiologists warned in a report released this week that Portugal could suffer a fifth wave of the virus at the end of this year, with more than 2,000 cases a day, although with fewer deaths than in the previous ones, due to the immunization of the population. (Eph)
